The Watergate Scandel The Watergate Scandal is the Nixon administration's , Committee to Reelect the President (CRP), attempt to cover up the burglary of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters at the Watergate office and apartment complex in Washington D.C. Nixon and his 1972 reelection campaign wanted to win the election any way they could. They made a plan to break into DNC headquarters and steal campaign information. The burglary took place on June, 17 1972 at the Watergate they planned to take pictures of documents stating the Democratic Party's campaign strategy and wiretap their telephones. While the five men, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Genzalez, Eugenio Martinez, Frank Sturgis, and James W. McCord Jr. , were doing this though a security guard at the Watergate caught them because the door was taped. Then they figured out James McCord was the security coordinator for the CRP and had ties to Nixon. Then Nixon started to cover up that he had any ties too the scandal.
